In The Beginning...

So, I've caved in and have created a blog. I guess I am searching for some sort of outlet that I am not finding anywhere else in my life. I've tried to keep journals before but what is the fun in that if no one knows what you've written. People like to be heard and seen. Isn't that what all these Friendster/MySpace/Facebook things are all about?

So here I am being heard and seen. Let's see if it satisfies me.

I think much of my want to blog comes from reading a few friends pages. One in particular is my friend Erik. His is insightful and entertaining. He talks of issues and things that have caught his fancy, not just himself. Hopefully I can write similarly.

"Waiting to Derail" was the song playing at the time I was searching for a title for my blog. If you are not familiar with it, it is a Whiskeytown song, from the Stranger's Almanac album . A train is one of those metaphors for life people are always making up to talk about trudging forward and excelling (accelerating), I think this phrase is the best cure for what ails me. I'm not in a hurry for anything. I am feeling better, waiting to derail.

Sirens! Sirens! Sirens from without my window! Somewhere there is trouble - somewhere is despair; yet here I sit in comfort on a swivel oak chair.

Hear hear! Blogging is good for your soul -- or if not your soul, at least your ego. And your wine consumption goes way up as a result, which is always a good thing... isn't it?

Hmm. Well, hear hear anyway. Welcome to the blogosphere.
